A man who pointed a gun at Argentina’s Vice-President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has been arrested. The incident took place when Cristina was returning from court.

In a video that surfaced online, the man could be seen pointing a gun at Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner. However, the attempt to assassinate Cristina was foiled by the crowd, and the man was captured immediately.

Argentina’s economy minister, Sergio Massa, took to Twitter to condemn the attack and expressed solidarity with Cristina.

“When hate and violence prevail over the debate of ideas, they destroy societies and generate situations like today’s: an assassination attempt. All my solidarity to Cristina and his family. And my wish is that all responsibilities be determined,” he wrote.

The man is reported to be of Brazilian origin, and police found the gun a few distances from where the incident occurred. Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner served as Argentina’s president from 2007 to 2015.
