HC stays Punjab plan for ration home delivery | India News

CHANDIGARH: In a setback to the AAP government in Punjab, the Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday restrained the state from creating any “third party interest” with regard to distribution of wheat flour (atta) to the beneficiaries at their homes. The government intended to bypass the fair price shops in the process. The HC has adjourned the matter to October 17 for the next hearing.
The AAP government was to launch the scheme from Saturday (October 1). “Meanwhile, the determination process may continue but no third party rights would be created till the next date of hearing,” the HC ordered.
A division bench was hearing a plea filed by the National Food Security Act (NFSA) Depot Holders’ Welfare Association, Bathinda. The members of the association run fair price shops in Punjab and are aggrieved over the recent scheme through other agencies.
